Cheryl Richey’s artistic journey is grounded in her desire to experiment with ways to explore and understand nature’s mysteries.  Richey’s paintings are like the haiku poetry she writes in that they strive to capture and communicate simple but fundamental truths.

Richey’s process of creating these spaces succeeds when she is able to integrate free experimentation with deep personal expression.  She often begins with spontaneous, textured surfaces and then goes about making “sense of the nonsense”.

Richey is drawn to Japanese literati and nihonga paintings and screens that honor both traditional nature themes as well as artistic individualism.  Most of her work focuses on place; solitary, vast, misty, mysterious spaces that she would love to visit.

Gallery Hours: Wednesday - Saturday, 12pm - 5pm
