It typically starts with a face, the lock of the subject's eyes with the viewer, with the artist. These magical little moments of connection, completely intangible, but connected briefly, uncomfortably.

Moods fueled by these connections are the subject matter that I paint. The subtly bizarre is a subject that often exists as a supporting element, but mood is truly the star. These paintings are reflections that exist as historical reference to personal journeys and the impressions left along the way. They live as uncertain and unclear documentation, contradicting every feeling they may invoke. They are whimsical and serious, strong and weak, flat and full of depth. The only stability is the flow of mood, and a story that never ends and never began.

David Riensche grew up in Sequim, Washington, USA. His education took him to Washington State University where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in fine art, and to Seattle where he earned a technical degree in Visual Communications from the Art Institute of Seattle. He has primarily freelanced as a graphic designer and illustrator throughout his career, working in Seattle, Los Angeles and Moscow, Russia.
